ACT on Alzheimer's

Region Nine Development Commission serves as the host organization for the Mankato/North Mankato ACT on Alzheimer's Action Team. This team examines the area's dementia readiness and helps ceate and implement dementia-friendly strategies in the community.

The Alzheimer’s Association estimates that there are 91,000 Minnesotans age 65 and older with the disease, and many thousands more with other dementias. This is an illness that has impacted almost everyone in Minnesota, as evidenced by the 249,000 family members and friends who serve as caregivers to those affected by a dementia-related condition.

Mankato/North Mankato is one of 44 Action Communities in Minnesota, working to prepare the state for the growing number of people with Alzheimer’s and other related dementias. They will build on the work being done by 19 existing Action Communities statewide. Their goal is to provide a supportive environment for everyone touched by dementia-related illness and their caregivers. This includes increasing Alzheimer’s and dementia awareness in all areas of the community, specialized memory loss and support services, promoting meaningful participation in community life and focusing on quality life at home and in their own communities.

ACT on Alzheimer’s is a volunteer-driven, statewide collaboration preparing Minnesota for the personal, social and budgetary impacts of Alzheimer’s and dementia-related illness.
