The City of Kiester was awarded the Small Cities Grant by the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation last fall to create an action plan for the future of Kiester. The plan identifies three low-cost next steps, which came from a combination of city and business interviews and a visioning session, that both residents and city officials can take toward maximizing growth potential for a reasonable cost.
Recommendations including:
- Establish senior living and opportunities for current residents to age-in-place
- Attract professionals and young families to move into the city
- Engage renters and lower income residents
Region Nine and the City of Kiester are now conducting a survey to help identify and prioritize projects that the city and its residents can begin to create a vibrant community. Survey closes on September 15, 2019.
