Volunteer Opportunities

The Mankato office of the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging®, Inc. offers several volunteer opportunities. Volunteers work with staff to make the life of older adults in south central Minnesota as healthy, active and fulfilling as possible. Opportunities include:

Health Insurance Counselors - Oftentimes when an older adult experiences health related problems, the paper work associated with the care they receive is overwhelming. Health Insurance Counselors can help sort through that paperwork, ensure that all bills have been submitted to the insurance carrier, assist with Medicare claims, and determine if all health care bills have been paid. Persons interested in becoming a Health Insurance Counselor will receive free training and will work with the staff of the Health Insurance Assistance Program. If you are interested in becoming a Counselor, call the Senior LinkAge LineŽ at 1-800-333-2433 and ask for the Health Insurance Assistance Program. Counselor times and schedules are flexible.

Project ROSE (Reaching out to Support Elders) Respite Volunteer - Caring for an elderly loved one can be a rewarding experience. It can also become physically and emotionally exhausting for the caregiver. Respite volunteers provide much needed breaks for caregivers. An in-home respite volunteer provides companionship and support for frail care receivers, while the caregiver takes time off for such activities as medical appointments, running errands, shopping, meeting friends, or taking time for fun and relaxation. Persons interested in becoming a respite volunteer will be trained by Project ROSE staff and then matched with a caregiver needing respite. If you are interested in becoming a ROSE Respite Volunteer, call the Senior LinkAge LineŽ at 1-800-333-2433 and ask for the Project ROSE Coordinator, Volunteer times and schedules are flexible.
