Renewable Energy
The South-Central Minnesota Regional Energy Study was conducted by Region Nine Development Commission and was funded by grants from the Southern Minnesota Initiative Foundation, the Southwest Clean Energy Resource Team and the Southeast Clean Energy Resource Team.
The study estimated the energy consumption, renewable energy potential, energy costs, and greenhouse gas emissions of the nine county region of south-central Minnesota. Study results are intended to:
- Stimulate and support community discussions regarding the future of energy generation and consumption in the region;
- Serve as a tool for developing a world class energy industry;
- Expand and diversify the regional economy;
- Provide a catalyst for the development of the Renewable Energy Valley (see Chapter 4 for more information regarding REV); and
- Supply the foundation for the mitigation of the environmental impacts associated with the non-renewable energy model under which the region is currently operating.
